Professor at the University of Stellenbosch, Capetown, South Africa. She has been Katherine Hampson Bessell Fellow with the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and Leibniz Professor at Leipzig University. Other research fellowships have been held with the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies at Kyoto University, Hitotsubashi University (Tokyo) and the Institute of Developing Economies, all in Japan. Research Interests, Japanese diplomacy, aid and industry in Africa; Africa's international relations; South African foreign policy.
